HÉVÍZ

We leave Sümeg by the highway nş 84 passing through Keszthely and toward Hévíz as final stage of the Route through the Western Trans-Danube.

Hévíz is the city spa with the European biggest lake of thermal water. Here we will stay three days. The necessary time to discover the Roman origins of the city. To visit the most emblematic thermal spring of Hungary and become seduced by the new temples of health and beauty of the new millennium: The wellness centres.

We are arriving to the heart of Héviz. We stop in a beautiful green area only 500 meters distant from the lake, here is located the Danubius Thermal Hotel Héviz, , the medicinal hotel and most prestigious wellness of the city and where we will lodge.

From 1976 this elegant Hotel of exquisite atmosphere, it is designed for the relax and the rest. It has anti-allergic rooms, for non smokers and disable people. Besides different Rooms perfectly equipped for Conferences and it is habitual venue of scientific activities, meetings and congresses .

The Sales Director of Danubius Thermal Hotel Héviz, welcomes us and he wants us a pleasant stay in the spa complex.

Before make ourselves comfortable, we carry out a visit through the facilities of the spa. The services offered to visitor are perfectly structured for an effective use. Indoor Thermal Baths with 2 pools and an outdoor thermal pool opened from middle of April until middle October. Besides a complete medical section with diagnosis, balneotherapy, hydrotherapy and physiotherapy.

In all medicinal hotels that we have visited, the physiotherapy section has the traction bath. We are interested in its operation. They explain to us that the traction bath is a therapeutic technique, designed in Hungary.

It consists of a soft and relaxing treatment for the muscles and the invigoration of the conjunctive tissues of the spine. It is applied to the patient which is suspended in the water by the neck or below the arms. It has a duration of 15 minutes and it is recommended for people with cervical and lumbar problems and those that want to maintain their back in good condition.

Inside the spa complex there are other services of private character such as a Dental Clinic, Ophthalmology and Thai Massagei.

The health and the well-being in a relaxing atmosphere are the wellness philosophy. An offer that each day has bigger demand, judging by the quantity of people that enter and leave the booths of treatments. We choose a massage thai. In Hungary this therapy is very requested in the Spa & Wellness.

By the way, it was not easy to get appointment. Due the intense spa activity, we opt to follow the schedule of other services such as the self-training and the morning gymnastics. Some members of the group reserved tennis and squash courts.

Our first day in Héviz was splendid. Radiant sun in the exterior and enjoyment of all the thermal pleasures in the spa most exquisite of the Route of the Wellness. The morning gymnastics was a healthy wake up, the breakfast very energy and after a solarium session, we program a thermal circuit. We taste the vegetarian cooking and we reserve the Thai massage for mid afternoon.

This old massage originated in the far east is based on hundred of years of traditions and in the knowledge of the "physiologic points", this make Thai Massage fundamentally different from the European massage. The expert masseurs learn the secrets and the techniques of the Thai Massage in the School of WAT PO'S Monastic Order, church of Bangkok.

It is a dry treatment (without oil) carried out through a fine massage shirt, in a mattress placed in the floor. Besides their fingers, masseuses THAI use the hands, the elbows, the knees and the feet very actively during the massage in those "physiologic points." The effects of the massage by means of "stretching" and massage in the different parts of the body is extraordinary.

The second day was dedicated to visit the facilities of the Danubius Thermal Hotel Aqua, the Lake and the small city of Hévíz.

Just 300m distant from the world wide famous thermal lake, in the heart of the spa city, we sight the Danubius Thermal Hotel Aqua, medicinal and wellness hotel, inaugurated in 1984.

The spa of health of the hotel includes an area of pools, sports and fitness and thermal baths in the interior. Outdoor, the surrounding garden and the landscape are really beautiful and you can even contemplate part of the Lake Hévíz.

Here is located a pool of 200square meters and the thermal water to 30şC for recreation with underwater massage, geyser, counter-current massage and therapy of Kneipp is applied. The atmosphere in the different areas of pool is very lively.

Héviz is a city SPA and its more valuable treasure is the water, because not only has healthy effects but also gives comfort and happiness to the swimmers. The thermal spring of Hévíz is a gift of the nature from which are derived many benefits for this country, one of them, evidently it is the Tourism.

The forest around the lake guarantees an unique microclima in the surroundings. Another attraction is the picturesque landscape of Pannonian that together with the mediterranean vapors, they cloud the small city, offering health and a great satisfaction to its visitors.

The miraculous healing effects of the Lake Hévíz were discovered by the Romans, Despite this historical fact, the true birth of this thermal lake was in the year 1795, when Count George Festetics was proprietor of this area. Tomorrow we will carry out an excursion to Keszthely to visit the famous palace of the aristocratic family.
