Illustrious flaviense, Director of Caldas de
Chaves  SPA and founder member of TERMASWORLD.COM
This book constitutes an important tourist guide, indispensable for the visitor,
due to its prose full of imagination and creativity. Already tells us about the
legends and sayings such as : "Those that drink the waters of Caldas will for
ever remain prissoners in Chaves."
 The
most recent publication of the illustrious flaviense, Dr. Mario G. Carneiro, "The
Magic of Aquae Flaviae" was presented by Dr. Bernardo Cabral, prestigious
senator from Brazil, in the course of a solemn act, that took place in the Salon
Noble (Assembly Hall) of the Câmara Municipal de Chaves (Portugal).
The edition of this book, has been one of the main cultural activities
carried out by the Camara Municipal. In the act were present official
authorities and cultural sectors of the thermal village. Representatives from
University of Vigo, Dra. María G. Souto Figueroa from Ourense University and
outstanding personalities of social sectors of Galicia and Portugal.
The book cover is illustrated with a panel of tiles pertaining to the Church
of Misericordia de Chaves, XVII century. In this panel appears a probative pool
that was in Jerusalem, at the entrance of the Temple. Every ill person entering
in this pool should get cured if an angel had submerged before.
The publication, with the subtitle of "Caldas of Chaves", it picks up
important aspects of the History of the city of Chaves. Through a group of texts
and images, passages of the past are recalled as well as the most recent events
in the History of this village, capital of the Alto Támega.
The Dr. Mario Goncalves Carneiro is member founder of TermasWorld.com, first
electronic magazine of Thermalism and Thalasotherapy in the net, and teacher of
several generations of thermalism specialists of Portugal. He did his doctorate
in the University of Coimbra and more than fifty years of clinical dedication as
director of the Caldas, he Maintains specialization bonds with different

AQUAE FLAVIAE
 The
book "The Magic of Aquae Flaviae" ,was prefaced by Dr. Alexandre Chaves who
from his responsibility as Chairman of the Camara Municipal de Chaves, gave a
great impulse to local thermalism, being the promoter of the amplification of
the current and modern Spa.
Chaves is the ancient Aquae Flaviae, from which keeps the great Roman Bridge
of Trajano, the Castle and remains of Dukes of Braganca Palaces and the Museum
of the Flaviense Region. Due to its careful environmental sorrounding is
consided a gentle "thermal village."
The waters of the Caldas, had been used 2000 years ago by the Romans, they
were used for the treatment of sick persons along centuries. At the moment the
Portuguese Public Healt pays part of the thermal cure, following the concept of
balneotherapy of the countries of the European Union.
Their sources of mineral-medical waters, (73º C), with a flow of 6.000
liters per hour, have a chemical composition that defines them as sodium
bicarbonated (hotest of Europe), gas ?carbónic, and meso-mineralized. Those
waters from Caldas de Chaves have the widest therapeutic spectrum of Portugal.
As synthesis of the work, the author remembers that Chaves, is a city of many
names. The historians denominated it Aquae Flaviae, because the roman Flavio
Vespasiano gave him his name. Chaves( Keys) of Portugal, because resisted the
invasions of the enemies defending northern border of Tras os Montes.
The architects classify Chaves as Monumental City mentioning the emperor
Trajano's Roman Bridge, of eighteen arches over the Támega River. The
professors teach that Chaves is pioneer Cultural City, from Bishop Idacio of
Chaves, author of the "Cronicón" in the V century.
The doctors indicate that the modern Chaves is a Healthy City?Thermal
Village due to group of hotel establishments, hospitals and the Thermal Baths
and a modern Spa of highest european level. Bubbles of life and health,
frequented by more than 6.000 thermalists that find treatment to their ailments
